Mechanical Designer
Our client is seeking a Mechanical Designer with a strong focus on buildings and construction to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical design using AutoCAD and Revit specifically for plumbing and HVAC systems. This position provides opportunities to work on diverse and impactful projects, including mid-rise apartments, offices, mixed-use, retail buildings, and a variety of commercial, municipal, and high-tech educational facilities. The firm is committed to sustainability, integrating Green Building standards such as LEED, Green Globes, and Earth Advantage.
This role is primarily onsite in Portland, Oregon.
Mechanical Designer Responsibilities
- Design plumbing systems including water, sanitary, chemical waste, and storm drainage, ensuring compliance with building codes (Uniform Plumbing Code and International Mechanical Codes).
- Prepare HVAC plans for air and water distribution, performing load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and equipment selection for systems.
- Develop specifications for fire protection systems and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Collaborate on cost estimates, energy studies, and life-cycle cost analysis to ensure project efficiency and sustainability.
- Engage in forensic investigations, providing insight and solutions based on findings.
- Work closely with clients, demonstrating strong communication and consultative skills to clarify technical questions and address client needs effectively.
Mechanical Designer Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related field.
- 1-5 years of experience in building-focused mechanical design, with expertise in plumbing or HVAC systems.
- Familiarity with Green Building standards (LEED, Green Globes, Earth Advantage) is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with proficiency in load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and equipment selection.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work directly with clients and collaborate with a team.
- Background in consulting or construction industry experience is highly preferred.
Preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience in sustainable design practices and the integration of Green Building standards.
- Strong work ethic, curiosity, and enthusiasm for building systems design across a range of projects.
Salary: $65K-$85K/year. (DOE)
