Plant Engineer
Our client is looking for a Plant Engineer to join their dynamic team and help drive the company's ambitious growth and production goals. This position has been open for a while, and the client is seeking a candidate with strong project management skills, plant layout experience, and the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects. The ideal candidate should have experience working hands-on in the manufacturing environment, interacting with various departments, and handling equipment installations and process improvements.

This is an on-site position in Milwaukie, Oregon.

Plant Engineer Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize production processes and product quality.
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments and outside vendors for new equipment installations and process enhancements.
  • Design food processing and packaging equipment (food industry experience is preferred but not required).
  • Create proposals for new equipment, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and determine ROI.
  • Manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously (typically 3-5 per week), ensuring adherence to deadlines.
  • Engage in hands-on work on the manufacturing floor, overseeing project execution and equipment operation.
  • Perform root-cause analysis to improve production processes and implement Lean processes to minimize downtime.
  • Develop manufacturing process instructions, documentation, and equipment layouts.
  • Implement SPC (Statistical Process Control) methods to enhance production efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, food safety, FDA, SQF, and GMP regulations.
  • Provide support for troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues as needed.

Plant Engineer Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in plant engineering, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering, with an emphasis on project management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with plant layout design, project management, and vendor coordination.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, especially for equipment layout and design.
  • Ability to manage complex projects that involve multiple teams and stakeholders, arriving mid-way through projects and ensuring successful completion.
  • Experience with packaging or industrial manufacturing equipment is a plus.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for interacting across departments and managing external vendors.
  • Adaptability to handle a wide variety of responsibilities, from on-site manufacturing tasks to attending meetings and developing designs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), ERP systems, and CAD software.
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean manufacturing, process improvement, and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with SQF, GMP, and HACCP programs.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative on projects.

Salary: $109k-$133k/year (DOE)
