Non-Profit Controller (Hybrid)
Our local non-profit client seeks a personable and easy-going non-profit accounting leader to join their team. The ideal candidate is mission-driven, embraces ambiguity, and communicates financial concepts with ease. This is a fantastic growth opportunity for someone looking to transition into a supervisory role, with a strong mentor in place.
This is a hybrid role (majority remote) requiring someone to be onsite at the Portland, Oregon office 1x per month and as needed.
Non-Profit Controller Responsibilities
- Supervise AP, payroll and grants administration, including reviewing and approving transactions, invoicing, cost allowability, and reporting to funders.
- Oversee month-end close, including journal entry preparation, reconciliations, and cost allocations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial standards.
- Develop, document, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for financial processes and ensure internal controls are in place for compliance.
- Support audit processes and collaborate with the Director of Finance to implement financial policies, budgeting, and projections across various funding sources.
- Manage one direct report and guide staff through financial procedures, fostering professional development and team growth.
Non-Profit Controller Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience; prior supervisory/leadership responsibility a plus.
- Knowledge of non-profit and/or government accounting, with a focus on grant management.
- Proficiency in cloud-based accounting systems (Sage Intaact or similar) and intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with proven ability to communicate financial concepts to non-financial staff.
- Deadline-driven with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
Salary: $70k–$80k (DOE)
