Application Scientist – SEMI
Our client is seeking an Application Scientist – SEMI to support their X-ray metrology products. This position involves close collaboration with sales, marketing, and the product development team, with up to 20% travel for on-site applications support, training, and presentations. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly and accurately communicate detailed specifications to customers and the client’s Semiconductor Metrology team to facilitate the sales process.
This role is onsite in Boise, Idaho. Candidates must be available for immediate training, including international travel.
Application Scientist Responsibilities
- Provide applications support for the client’s semiconductor metrology tools, utilizing various x-ray analytical techniques (e.g., HR-XRD, XRR, XRF/TXRF, SAXS).
- Assist customers remotely and on-site with recipe creation, optimization, tool operation, and data analysis. Use expert technical knowledge to drive solutions to challenging customer applications.
- Support the client Service team during new tool installations and conduct in-depth analysis to troubleshoot tool issues when needed.
- Collaborate with the client Sales team to ensure customer satisfaction throughout the sales process. Understand customer requirements and act as the technical lead for product demonstrations.
- Develop technical documentation, application notes, and training materials. Communicate complex technical topics clearly to diverse audiences.
- Maintain strong, productive relationships with customers and colleagues at all levels.
- Travel to customer sites primarily within the United States, with occasional international trips.
Application Scientist Qualifications
- Ph.D. or M.S. in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, Solid State, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum of three years of experience as an applications scientist/engineer in a semiconductor metrology tool manufacturer or as a process engineer in a semiconductor device manufacturer with thin film quality control/metrology experience.
- Strong semiconductor experience with familiarity in high-volume manufacturing, tool troubleshooting, SPC, problem-solving, and recipe development is essential.
- Experience with epitaxial thin film characterization using HR-XRD, including reciprocal space mapping, pole figures, and texture analysis.
- Strong understanding of x-ray physics, spectroscopy, diffraction, and scattering fundamentals.
- In-depth knowledge of semiconductor device manufacturing processes.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills (e.g., root cause analysis, 5 Whys).
- Proficient in data analysis techniques and statistical process control.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); intermediate proficiency in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, or Hebrew is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 20%, including international travel.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required.
- Must have a valid passport for international travel.
Salary: $105k-$150k/year. (DOE)
