Senior Footwear Materials Developer
Our client is seeking a Senior Footwear Materials Developer to join their dynamic team and drive product excellence through innovative material solutions specifically for footwear. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your technical expertise to guide the selection and development of materials, focusing on the unique needs of footwear products. Your ability to balance functional, aesthetic, and performance goals will be critical in supporting both business and consumer outcomes.

This position follows a hybrid model and is based in Beaverton, Oregon.

Senior Footwear Materials Developer Responsibilities

  • Footwear Material Development: Lead the development of new footwear-specific materials, ensuring alignment with product strategies and technical requirements.
  • Product Excellence: Champion functional excellence in footwear materials, emphasizing performance, quality, cost-efficiency, aesthetics, and sustainability.
  • Collaboration: Engage directly with footwear product creation teams, vendors, and other departments to identify and implement strategic materials, ensuring product excellence for both athletes and consumers.
  • Project Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of footwear material development, including testing and commercialization, while managing timelines and deliverables.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Material Planning, Sourcing, and Costing teams to ensure transparency, address challenges, and drive resolution.
  • Vendor Relations: Act as the primary liaison with vendors regarding footwear-specific material initiatives, including price negotiations, technical specifications, and performance standards.
  • Training & Education: Provide targeted training and education to footwear product teams, enhancing their understanding of strategic materials and supporting informed decision-making.
  • Data Analysis & Presentation: Analyze, interpret, and clearly present footwear material data to support strategic decision-making across teams.

Senior Footwear Materials Developer Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or a combination of relevant education, experience, and training.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in footwear materials development, manufacturing, or engineering with a strong focus on material processes tailored to footwear.
  • Deep understanding of various footwear material manufacturing processes and expertise in material types such as fibers, yarn, textiles, leather, synthetic leather, and components specific to footwear needs.
  • Proven ability to translate lab testing results into applicable end-use solutions for footwear.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to effectively present material data and insights specific to footwear applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a clear ability to present facts and solutions focused on footwear materials.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to anticipate needs and mitigate risks.
  • High attention to detail, with assertiveness and self-motivation to manage competing projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid digital literacy, including proficiency in MS Office; experience with footwear-specific material management systems is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time.

Compensation: $26.67-$36.67
